Setting up a DNS record on a single server using HOSTS file

If you are on a server/computer that doesn't have "real DNS", you can configure a work around just for your specific server/computer by editing a file on the computer.

Go to Windows > System32 > Drivers > Etc and open the file in Notepad called "hosts". You can add an entry for a specific IP address in the file.

Sometimes, you have right click on Notepad and launch Notepad as an administrator in order to have the right security permissions to save the hosts file once you edit it.
